I gratefully acknowledge that I am an uninvited settler on the stolen territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səl̓ilwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations. I am conscious of the harm that my profession of social work has caused and continues to cause, particularly towards Indigenous peoples. I recognize that mainstream mental health care is provided within a colonial framework and system. Therefore, I mindfully engage in the ongoing struggle of decolonizing my counselling practice, which requires lifelong learning and, more importantly, unlearning.
